Earth Science is the branch of science that pertains to the study of the origin, structure and phenomena of the planet Earth. Earth science is an all-embracing term for the sciences related to the study of the earth and of the universe around it, making it a wide scientific discipline covering all facets of how the earth works. It is a special case in planetary science as the earth is the only known life-bearing planet. Earth Science is also known as the Earth Sciences, Geoscience, and the Geosciences.

Earth and the appearance

  1. Our amazing Planet Earth is the only planet that is known to harbor life. Read on to know about interesting and remarkable facts about Planet Earth.

The Planet Earth was formed approximately 4.5 billion years ago. So far, our very own Planet Earth is the only planet that harbors life. From the ancient years, there were many theories regarding the shape of the earth and the many myths associated with it as well. Today, our Planet Earth faces threat due to human intervention and activities. Have you ever wondered how this name was derived? Or what is the approximate distance of the Planet Earth from the sun? Let us now unearth some interesting facts about Planet Earth and know what makes this Planet really so special to us.
  1.  Our Planet Earth is only slightly larger than Venus. But due to the dense nickel core, which is present in the center of the Earth, we can see that Venus has only 80 percent the mass of Earth.
The Planet Earth takes approximately 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.091 seconds to rotate around its axis. Therefore, on an average, the Planet Earth takes around 24 hours to complete a full rotation.

And since it was mostly liquid, heavier elements like iron and nickel were able to sink down into the planet and accumulate at the core. The core is believed to have two parts: a solid inner core, with a radius of 1,220 km, and then a liquid outer core that extends to a radius of 3,400 km. The core is through to be 80% iron, as well as nickel and other dense elements like gold, platinum and uranium.

The inner core is solid, but the outer core is a hot liquid. Scientists think that movements of metal, like currents in the oceans, create the magnetic field that surrounds the Earth.
,Although the Earth’s crust is cool, the inside of the Earth is hot. The mantle is only about 30 km beneath our feet, and it’s hot enough to melt rock. At the core of the Earth, temperatures are thought to rise to 3,000 to 5,000 Kelvin.
